Honeywell Coil Cleaning: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Honeywell-compatible coil cleaning for most Fort Lauderdale homes at a flat rate of $120 to $240 per coil, depending on access and how much buildup we’re dealing with. That price is written down before we start, and it does not move at the door. Most Honeywell coil jobs take under two hours, and we can usually get a crew out within a few days of your call to (754) 354-3644.
Most homeowners find out their coil needs cleaning when the AC starts working harder than it should. The air coming out of the vents feels warm or weak, the electric bill creeps up in July, or water starts pooling around the air handler. In Fort Lauderdale, where the system runs nearly year-round, a coated Honeywell coil is not a rare occurrence. It’s what the humidity does to every coil eventually.
Which Honeywell Models This Applies To
This work applies to Honeywell evaporator coils installed in residential air handlers and furnace coils used across Fort Lauderdale’s split-system setups. The most common units we service are Honeywell’s HCE and C series coils, plus the matched coils Honeywell ships with their TRUEcomfort and FocusPRO thermostat-integrated systems. If you have a Honeywell coil paired with a Lennox, Trane, or Carrier condenser, the cleaning process is the same, but the coil dimensions and access panel locations differ enough that we measure before we quote.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: Honeywell coils made before 2012 often have thinner aluminum fins than current production. They clean fine, but they ding easier if someone rushes the job with high-pressure spray. We use low-pressure washing with a commercial coil cleaner, because that’s what these older fins need. Newer Honeywell coils, especially the HCE400 series, have a factory epoxy coating that handles our standard cleaning process without issue.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for cleaning, there is no part to buy, so the OEM debate doesn’t apply. What matters is the chemical and the method. We use a commercial-grade alkaline coil cleaner that strips the biological film that forms in South Florida humidity, then rinse with a low-pressure wash. We don’t use hardware-store foaming sprays that smell strong but leave residue behind.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Honeywell Coil Cleaning Is Failing
- Warm air from the vents on a hot day. A dirty coil can’t transfer heat the way it should. The system runs longer to hit the thermostat setting, and the air still feels weak. Underlying cause: the coil surface is insulated by a layer of dirt, dust, and biological film.
- The electric bill jumped without a change in routine. When the coil is fouled, the compressor runs longer and harder. In Fort Lauderdale, where AC season is ten months long, that inefficiency compounds fast. Underlying cause: reduced coil efficiency forces the system to cycle more.
- Water pooling around the indoor air handler. A dirty coil causes condensation to run off unevenly, overflowing the drain pan or dripping onto the floor. Underlying cause: the coil’s surface is unevenly fouled, so condensate runs in the wrong places instead of down the drain channels.
- Musty or sour smell when the system kicks on. The coil is the coldest, wettest surface in the system, and in Fort Lauderdale humidity, it stays damp between cycles. That damp surface grows mold and bacteria, which the fan then blows through the house. Underlying cause: biological growth on the coil fins.
- Ice forming on the copper lines or the coil itself. A severely fouled coil restricts airflow enough that the refrigerant temperature drops below freezing. Ice on the lines or the coil housing is a late-stage symptom. Underlying cause: airflow restriction from heavy buildup.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, coil cleaning for a Honeywell system runs $120 to $240 per coil. The range depends on access, not on how dirty the coil is, because we quote a flat system price before we start, not an hourly rate that rewards slowness. If your air handler is in a tight closet or a hot attic, the job takes longer, and the price reflects that honest reality.
Here’s what that price includes:
- Written price before any work starts. It does not change at the door.
- Full coil inspection: we check fin condition, drain pan condition, and refrigerant line temperatures before we clean.
- Commercial-grade alkaline coil cleaner, applied and rinsed with low-pressure wash.
- Drain line check and flush, because a dirty coil almost always leaves debris in the line.
- Before-and-after photos of your actual coil, not a stock image.
- The 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the coil re-fouls within a year due to our cleaning work, we come back and re-clean it at no charge.
We don’t quote per-vent, per-coil-section, or per-hour add-ons. One flat price for the coil, agreed before we touch anything.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look at the air filter: if it’s clogged, the coil has been starving for airflow, and that’s the root cause of the buildup. Check the drain pan for standing water. And look at whether the coil surface is visible through the access panel: if it looks like a gray carpet instead of shiny aluminum fins, it’s time.
What we don’t recommend is opening the coil cabinet and spraying it down yourself. Honeywell coils sit close to electrical connections, and the wrong spray can damage the epoxy coating on newer coils or bend the thinner fins on older ones. The bigger issue is that coil cleaning without a proper rinse pushes debris deeper into the fins, where it blocks airflow even worse than before. We’ve cleaned coils in homes near Las Olas Boulevard where a previous DIY attempt left half the coil packed with cleaner residue. That job cost more to correct than if it had been done right the first time.

FAQs
Every two to three years for most homes, and every one to two years if you have pets, run the system constantly, or live near the Intracoastal where salt air and humidity are both working against you. We’ve seen coils near the Port Everglades corridor that needed cleaning twice in a single year because of the combination of salt air and constant runtime. Call (754) 354-3644 and we’ll give you an honest read on your coil’s condition.
No. Coil cleaning is the repair. If the coil has a refrigerant leak, that’s a different job, and it usually means coil replacement, not cleaning. But leaks are rare compared to fouling, and most “dead” coils we see in Fort Lauderdale just need the buildup removed and the drain line cleared. We’ll tell you which situation you have before we recommend any work.
Most Honeywell coil cleaning jobs take 90 minutes to two hours from arrival to clean site. The cleaning itself is usually 30 to 45 minutes. The rest is inspection, drain line flush, and before-and-after photos so you can see the work was actually done. We arrive inside the quoted window, in uniform, and we leave the site the way we found it.
Yes. Every Hollis Air Duct Fort Lauderdale truck carries commercial-grade alkaline coil cleaner, low-pressure rinse equipment, and the fin combs and inspection tools needed for Honeywell’s thinner pre-2012 fins and the epoxy-coated HCE400 series. We don’t run to the hardware store mid-job. The equipment and the chemicals are on the truck when we arrive.
Clean ducts move air. Everything else is just noise.
