Honeywell Duct Sealing & Repair: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If your Honeywell ductwork is leaking, pulling attic air, or showing gaps at the joints, we stock and install the sealing materials and repair parts that match Honeywell residential systems here in Fort Lauderdale. A typical Honeywell duct sealing and repair job in our area runs between $350 and $900 depending on how much of the duct run needs re-sealing and whether we’re repairing one joint or redoing an entire trunk line. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners discover the problem the same way: a room that never cools right, a filter that clogs fast, or dust showing up on furniture within days of cleaning. The ducts are moving air, but not all of it is reaching the register.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Honeywell. What we bring is working knowledge of how Honeywell systems hold up in South Florida conditions: salt air near the coast, attic temperatures that hit 130°F in August, and enough humidity to test every taped seam you’ve got. Roy Castellanos and our crew have been opening up duct systems in Broward County for the better part of two decades, and we can tell you exactly what’s failing before we touch it.
Key takeaways:
- Honeywell duct sealing and repair in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $350 to $900 installed.
- We stock Honeywell-compatible mastic, foil tape, and flex duct repair components on the truck.
- Every job gets a written price before work starts, backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
- This is scheduled work, not emergency work. We’ll set a time and show up inside the window.
Which Honeywell Models This Applies To
Honeywell doesn’t manufacture ductwork the way they manufacture thermostats and filters. In most homes, Honeywell plays one of two roles: the zoning system and zoning dampers controlling airflow, or the whole-home filtration and media cabinet in the air handler. Both connect to your duct system, and both create sealing points that fail over time in Fort Lauderdale’s heat and humidity. If your system has a Honeywell TrueZONE panel, Honeywell zone dampers (typically the ARD or ZD series), or a Honeywell media air cleaner cabinet like the F100 or F200, the sealing work we do involves those connection points and the surrounding duct.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Honeywell zone dampers come in different shaft lengths and damper diameters, and a round damper that fits a 10-inch duct is not interchangeable with one that fits a 12-inch. The model number is printed on the damper motor and on the damper blade itself. Before we quote a repair, we verify the damper size, the motor type (spring-return vs. power-open/power-close), and the duct diameter. On the OEM vs. aftermarket question: we’ve had better long-term results with genuine Honeywell damper assemblies than with generic replacements, particularly on spring-return motors. The aftermarket ones work until they don’t, and in a Fort Lauderdale attic, they don’t last as long. For sealing materials, we use commercial-grade water-based duct mastic and UL-listed foil tape, not hardware-store duct tape. Duct tape fails in Florida attics within a season or two. The heat breaks down the adhesive and the tape peels right off the seam.

Signs Your Honeywell Duct Sealing & Repair Is Failing
- One room never reaches temperature while others freeze you out. This usually means a zone damper isn’t fully opening or closing, or a duct seam in that branch run has opened up. The air is leaving the duct before it gets to the room.
- Your filter is clogging every two to three weeks. A gap in the return duct pulls attic air, insulation fibers, and drywall dust into the system. Honeywell media filters catch all of it, and they plug fast when the return is leaking.
- You hear whistling or hissing near the air handler. That’s air escaping under pressure. When a Honeywell media cabinet or hand-built transition collar loses its seal, the air noise sounds like a teakettle on low.
- Dust shows up on furniture within days of cleaning. Duct leaks on the supply side blow attic particulate into your living space. In Fort Lauderdale, that particulate includes sand, pollen, and whatever the sea breeze carried in that week.
- Your energy bill climbs during the same months your comfort drops. A leaking duct system can lose 20 to 30 percent of conditioned air before it reaches the register. You’re paying to cool an attic.

Fort Lauderdale pricing for Honeywell duct sealing and repair breaks down by the scope of the job, not by the vent. Here’s what you can expect to pay installed:
| Job Scope | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Single duct joint re-seal (mastic + foil tape) | $150 – $250 |
| Honeywell zone damper replacement (one damper, motor included) | $225 – $375 |
| Media cabinet re-seal and filter housing repair | $200 – $350 |
| Partial duct run re-seal (3-5 joints, supply or return) | $350 – $650 |
| Full trunk line re-seal with access panel repair | $600 – $900 |
The range depends on how much duct is accessible, whether we’re working in an attic or a crawl, and how many dampers need replacing. Parts are quoted separately from labor, and you’ll see both numbers before we start. The price we write down is the price you pay. It does not move at the door. Every Honeywell repair we do is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, including a free second visit. That’s not a verbal promise. It’s written on the estimate.
DIY or Call Us?
Some of this work is safe to inspect on your own. You can look for visible gaps in exposed ductwork, feel for air blowing around the media cabinet, and check whether your Honeywell zone dampers are actually moving when the thermostat calls for heat or cool. That tells you where the problem is. It doesn’t tell you how to fix it.
Duct sealing looks simple from the outside. It’s the inside that gets people. Duct sealing mastic is water-based and non-toxic, but it’s also messy and it needs to be pressed into the joint, not painted over the surface. Foil tape needs a clean, dry surface to bond, which means wiping down the duct first. And replacing a Honeywell zone damper involves low-voltage wiring and making sure the damper orientation matches the panel’s programming. Wire it backwards and your zone runs in reverse. We’ve been called out to fix that exact mistake more than once. If you’re dealing with an attic access in summer, the heat alone is enough reason to have us do it. We’ll quote it in writing, you’ll know the number before we begin, and the work is guaranteed for a year. Call (754) 354-3644 and we’ll set a time.
Clean ducts move air. Everything else is just noise.
FAQs
Properly applied mastic and foil tape lasts 20 years or more, but the lifespan depends on the attic environment and the quality of the original seal job. In Fort Lauderdale’s heat, cheap tape fails within two seasons. We use commercial-grade materials on every job, and our work is covered in writing for a year. Call (754) 354-3644 if your current seal is failing and you want a straight answer on what’s needed.
Sometimes, yes. A Honeywell zone damper with a bad motor can often be repaired by replacing just the motor, not the whole damper assembly. But if the damper blade is bent or the shaft is stripped, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll show you the failed part and explain what’s repairable before recommending anything. Call (754) 354-3644 and we’ll assess it in person.
A single joint re-seal takes 90 minutes to two hours once we’re inside the attic. A full trunk line re-seal or multiple damper replacement is usually a half-day job. We’ll give you a time window when you schedule, and we arrive inside that window. No one wants a crew parked in their driveway all afternoon.
We stock Honeywell-compatible mastic, UL-listed foil tape, flex duct, and the most common Honeywell zone damper motors and damper assemblies for 10-inch and 12-inch round ducts on the truck. Specialty sizes may need a supply house run. We also work with parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier systems, so if your Honeywell components connect to a different manufacturer’s air handler, we can address both. Call (754) 354-3644 for a free estimate.
